Find Something Different: Five Interesting Classes You Can Take At PUC

By: Ally Romanes

Whether you’re daydreaming about all the classes you can take once you arrive as a new student at PUC or you’re currently sitting in your dorm room working on registering for spring quarter, keep in mind, PUC offers some really fun and interesting classes you can take to fulfill your extracurricular credits. Here are a few of our personal favorites.

ITAL 111 – Beginning Italian

Have you always wanted to learn a new language but never found the time? Join a language class and earn college credit while learning a new skill! PUC offers multiple language courses but Italian feels the most fun for us. Learn to speak, read, listen, and write in Italian while also learning about the culture.

AVIA 101 – Introduction To Flight

Is your head always in the clouds? How about taking your actual head into actual clouds? PUC is lucky to have a private airport that is home to our department of aviation. But you don’t need to be an aviation major to experience the Napa Valley and our campus from the sky, register for Intro to Flight and you can do just that.

Bonus: PUC has a state of the art flight simulator in case the Angwin skies are a little too intimidating.

MUHL 245 – Introduction to World Music and Culture

Music transcends language barriers and is known to bring people together. It’s important to explore the different types of music the world offers and at PUC, you are blessed to have the opportunity to do that while still earning credits toward your degree. Introduction to World Music and Culture examines how people from different cultures incorporate music into their lives with an emphasis on non-Western and folk music.

ARTF 212 – Ceramics I

What’s more fun than playing with clay? Sign up for ceramics and spend some time each week creating art with your own hands while trying to master the ever difficult wheel-throwing technique. Who knows, you might even walk away with a great gift for your parents!

ESAC 107A – Swim & Stay Fit

Everyone at PUC is required to take fitness classes, it’s just part of a general liberals arts education. However, why not make sure you’re having a blast while you earn those credits. Take a break from the classrooms, fitness centers, and weight rooms and hop in the pool! This class aims to teach you the use of swimming skills to enhance muscular and cardiovascular fitness, but ultimately, pools are just fun!

These are just a small sample of the classes PUC offers. For a full list, check out the course catalog

Reserve Your Spot in a Residence Hall & Register for Classes

Dorm 1

One of the best things about attending Pacific Union College is living in one of our seven residence halls; there are four for women, and three for men. About 72 percent of students live on campus, which fosters a close-knit community atmosphere. Students live together, study together, socialize and worship together, giving our campus a unique sense of unity. College is a special time where you have your closest friends living around you. Browse through a photo gallery to see what residential life is like at PUC and picture yourself here.

Last month, class registration for Fall 2016 started, and if you’re an accepted student, you can register for classes after paying your enrollment fee. This lets us know you’re committed to attending PUC and it reserves your spot in classes, once you register for them. It also reserves your room in the residence halls, provided you have completed your housing form

Once this fee is paid, you’re eligible to register for classes. For new freshmen, you can begin talking with your PUC enrollment counselor to plan your perfect class schedule—maybe without an 8 a.m. class! Your counselor will do their best to get you the classes you want, but keep in mind some things just might not be possible.

Transfer students, you will work with your advisor for what you should register for, based upon the degree audit completed by the Records office. Don’t hesitate to ask your advisor for their input if you aren’t 100 percent sure about what to register for. You can also contact Igdaly Patel, our transfer student counselor, for assistance as well. She can be reached at igdaly@puc.edu or at (707) 965-6422.

If you have any questions about registration, or the status of your application, contact the Enrollment Services office at at enroll@puc.edu or (800) 862-7080, option 2. We’re here to help throughout the entire admission process, and we can’t wait to have you on campus this fall!

How Class Registration Works at PUC

If you’re an accepted student for this coming fall but aren’t sure how to go about registering for classes, look no further! This blog post is for you.

Pay Your Enrollment Fee
At this point, the most important thing for you to do is pay your $150 enrollment fee. This lets us know you’re committed to attending PUC and it reserves your spot in classes, once you register for them. You can pay the fee online or by calling PUC’s cashier at 707.965.7530. If you decide PUC isn’t the right fit for you, the fee is completely refundable before September 1st.

Register for Classes
Once you pay your enrollment fee, you’re eligible to register for classes. For new freshmen, this means working with your Enrollment Counselor or to get your perfect class schedule, where your first class is only at 10 AM and you never have class on Fridays. It doesn’t hurt to dream! Your Counselor will do their best to get you the classes you want, but keep in mind some things just might not be possible. And we don’t want to alarm you, but the longer you wait to register for classes, the harder it is to get the schedule you want as sections start to fill up.

Transfer students, you get to jump a little ahead in the process and start working with your advisor for what you should register for, based upon the degree audit completed by the Records office. Don’t hesitate to ask your advisor for their input if you aren’t 100 percent sure about what to register for. You can also contact Igdaly Patel, our transfer student counselor, for assistance as well. She can be reached at igdaly@puc.edu or at 707.965.6422.

Talk With Your Advisor at Orientation
You will be assigned an advisor in the area you’re studying. For example, if you’re planning to study Business, your advisor will be a professor in the Business Department (helpful, right?). If you’re planning to double major, it means double the advisor fun – you get two! These professors know the ins and outs of their department’s programs and seek to have you complete your degree in four years while mentoring academic, spiritual and personal growth.

When you arrive to campus for Orientation in September, you will get a chance to meet one-on-one with your advisor and go over your fall schedule and start planning winter and spring.

Meet With Your Advisor Every Quarter
Every quarter your advisor will need to approve your class schedule. It’s a great safety net for making sure you stay on track to complete your degree!

Now that you see how easy and beneficial registering for classes can be, let’s get to it! Call 800.862.7080 option 2 or email enroll@puc.edu to talk with an Enrollment Counselor about a sample class schedule, or if you already have paid your enrollment fee, to register for classes. You will thank yourself later on for getting this taken care of now!
