Maxwell Scholar Spotlight: Matthew Winokan

Coming from Thornton, CO is Maxwell Scholar Matthew Winokan. Last school year he attended Campion Academy in Loveland and now at PUC is majoring in pre-nursing. Receiving the Maxwell Scholarship means a lot to him because it shows the fruition of the work that he did in high school, and it also helps his family in numerous ways financially. Overall, Matthew calls this scholarship a major blessing.

What are your other reasons for choosing to attend PUC?

One of the other reasons I chose PUC was because my aunt graduated from here as well. So, this school was always mentioned when I had questions about where I would attend college.

What do you do when you don’t feel motivated?

When I feel unmotivated, one thing I like to implement is taking breaks and giving myself a chance to recover from all of the things that are taking a toll on me mentally. I also like to take a chance to pray or read some Bible verses to give me encouragement.

When you aren’t studying, what kinds of activities or hobbies do you enjoy?

One thing I like to do when I am not studying is going to work out at the gym or just be active in general by playing sports or getting some fresh air.

If you had one piece of advice to give academy or high school students, what would it be?

A piece of advice that I would give high school students is to work and study hard but make time to make long-term memories and friends because time flies by really quickly.
