Change Up Your Study Life

Sitting at a desk or table spending hours studying can get uncomfortable and tiring. Even after getting up to stretch or have a snack break, it’s nice to change your study setting now and then. Here are six ways you can change up your study life:

Study Outside

During the fall and spring, you will always see students studying outside. Whether on the lawn, patio tables, or even reading in hammocks, our students find it beneficial to their health and learning by studying under the sun or trees. So get up out of your seat, grab your work material, and try to study outside.

Color-Code Your Notes

Many students color-code their notes to make studying easier for them and keep notes well organized. Using colored pens, sharpies, and highlighters can enhance your memory to remember the things you’ve read and studied.

Turn Studying Into A Game

Make studying more enjoyable by turning studying into a game. Quiz yourself or with your friends to see who knows the material best. By having fun and learning exam materials- you might remember important information better because those memories will stick with you.

Have A Study Buddy

Some find studying one-on-one more effective for them. Have a study buddy who will keep you motivated and help you stay on track. It’s nice having someone there to study with because they might have different ways of approaching the material that could be helpful for you too.

Make Acronyms

Making acronyms are other ways to remember important information for an exam or quiz. Some students have found moving the first letter of each word can create a crazy word that sticks to their minds. Try making an acronym when you have a list of words you need to remember. (When you can’t make an acronym, see if you can make abbreviations.)

Turn Your Notes Into Songs

We get songs stuck in our heads, so why not turn class notes into songs? Music does amazing things, and turning class notes into songs or jingles could prepare you for quizzes and exams. Creating a fun tune while reading your notes out loud can help you remember important material.

Workout Your Body & Mind

Some students like working out and studying at the same time. Either by walking around the track, fast walking on the treadmill, or cycling while reading their textbook or lecture notes. We understand not everyone likes to mix their workout sessions with their study sessions. The same goes for being able to multitask. If you do try this, take it easy first to see if your mind and body can keep up with each other and if you’re able to find this study method effective.

Everyone studies differently, but we hope at least one of these study methods can help you remember your material and ace your exams. As you study for long hours, remember to stand once in a while to give yourself a break and loosen your muscles. Do some stretches, take deep breaths, and give your mind a break.
