If you haven’t already begun your scholarship search to help pay for college, now’s the perfect time to get started! PUC offers many scholarships for various things, ranging from athletics to leadership to the creative arts, but the deadline to apply for them is quickly approaching and we don’t want you to miss out! Remember, you need to be an accepted student and apply before the March 2 deadline.
There’s also plenty of scholarship money available to students outside of what colleges offer – you just have to look for it! Below is a list of 10 scholarships open to current high school seniors that have application deadlines in the next few months. Get to applying!
1. DoSomething.org’s Love Letters scholarship
Deadline: February 15, 2016
Award amount: $5,000
There are over 11 million seniors in America who live alone and face isolation on a daily basis. By signing up for facts about older adults from DoSomething.org, you will also receive ideas for making a Valentine’s Day card for a senior to help them combat isolation, as well as an entry into the scholarship drawing.
2. The Christophers Annual Poster Contest scholarship
Deadline: February 17, 2016
Award amount: $1,000
Another scholarship for artistic students, this scholarship asks students to create a poster interpreting the theme of “One Person Can Make a Difference.” There are also monetary prizes for second and third place, as well as up to five honorable mentions.
3. Teens for Jeans scholarship
Deadline: February 29, 2016
Award amount: $5,000
Want a chance to help others and possibly earn some cash for yourself? DoSomething.org is giving away another $5,000 scholarship to a student who organizes a gently-used jean drive for the homeless in their community.
4. Growing up Asian in America scholarship
Deadline: March 4, 2016
Award amount: $1,000
In honor of the upcoming Olympic games, this scholarship asks students to think about a person in their life they would award a gold medal, and why. Responses can be an essay, video, or artwork. The contest is open to all students, regardless of background, but does require entries to be about an Asian or Pacific Islander American experience and / or person.
Please note, this scholarship is only available for students living in the following Bay Area counties: Alameda, Contra Costa, Marin, Napa, San Francisco, San Mateo, Santa Clara, Solano or Sonoma
5. Toyota Teen Video Challenge
Deadline: March 7, 2016
Award amount: $15,000
If you’re into making videos, this is the scholarship for you! Create a video encouraging teens to drive safer and you could win $15,000. Another sweet perk? If you win, you also get to work with a film crew to reshoot your video entry into a PSA to be aired on TV! Second place also nets you $10,000, and there are 12 other monetary prizes for runners up.
6. Frame My Future Scholarship Contest
Deadline: March 8, 2016
Award amount: $1,000
Applicants must submit a collage, drawing, graphic design piece, painting, photograph, poem or another creative entry discussing what they hope to achieve in both their personal and professional life after college. Five winners receive $1,000, and the grand prize winner also receives an additional $1,000 to be given to their college.
7. Superpower Scholarship
Deadline: March 31, 2016
Award amount: $2,500
How many of us have daydreamed about what we would do if we had a superpower? The possibilities are endless. This short essay contest asks students to answer the question “Which superhero or villain would you want to change places with for a day and why?”
8. Project Yellow Light
Deadline: April 1, 2016
Award amount: $5,000
In honor of Hunter Garner, who was killed in a car accident, this scholarship asks students to create a 25 or 55 second video to encourage teens not to drive distracted. The winner receives a $5,000 scholarship, while the second place winner receives $2,000. Third place gets you $1,000.
9. Niche.com “No Essay” Scholarship
Deadline: Monthly
Award amount: $2,000
This scholarship is basically a random drawing every month. Scholarships don’t get any easier!
10. CollegeWeekLive Monthly $1,000 Scholarship
Deadline: Monthly
Award amount: $1,000
The requirements for this monthly scholarship drawing are simple! Sign up for CollegeWeekLive, research at least five colleges while you’re logged in to your account, and then you’ll be entered into a drawing to win $1,000.
