Get to Know Jennifer Peñaflorida: Assistant Professor in Education & English

God brought Jennifer Peñaflorida to Pacific Union College three years ago. Through His word, providential workings, and the appeals of His Spirit impressing her heart, Jennifer saw clearly that PUC was where God wanted her to be.

What is your favorite thing about being a part of the Pioneers family?

The community—my colleagues and students, my PUC Elementary and Prep family, my PUC church family—is simply the best. Before moving here, my family and I lived far from church, so we only saw friends on Sabbaths. Here, we live and work and fellowship together. On Sabbath afternoons, my daughter hangs out with her friends on our block, and in the evenings, I know I can find them at the Furness’s house, where Nate and Jennie worship with and feed them. This is community.

What should people know about your departments?

We are ready to serve our students—those who know they want to be educators and those who are still finding their place—with love, compassion, and respect.

Do you have a favorite place to eat in the Napa Valley?

Two places: Mustards Grill near Yountville and The Girl and the Fig in Sonoma.

Mustards call themselves a fancy truck stop, which I find hilarious. Everyone in my family can find something to eat there, and the food is consistently good. Their lemon and garlic chicken, adult grilled cheese sandwich, sweet corn tamales, onion rings, warm chocolate hazelnut truffle tart, and lemon-lime tart are my favorites.

The Girl and the Fig is a like a French version of Mustards. They offer a Bistro Plats Du Jour, which is a pre-fixe three-course dinner for $48, affordable for Napa standards. Their wild flounder meunière and fig and arugula salad are my favorites.

What would students be surprised to find out about you?

I am a friendly introvert.

Where is your dream vacation?

Portugal and the Azores.

Finish this sentence: On Sunday mornings you can find me…

sipping a pour over coffee and reading a book out on the backyard deck.
