Milbert Mariano is well-known to the PUC campus and community. He has been working at PUC for 28 years- starting as a professor of graphic design in the visual arts department, then moving on to being academic dean, and now dean of arts, humanities, and professions.
He administers nine academic departments within the Arts (Music and Visual Arts), Humanities (Communication & World Languages, English, History, and Theology), and Professions (Aviation, Business, and Education), as well as direct the Honors Program. He also collaborates with faculty in maintaining and designing classroom spaces and curricula through strategy and planning.
What’s your vision for your department?
My vision for the school of Arts, Humanities, and Professions is to focus on ways to innovate and grow by making sure students and faculty have what they need to succeed. Continuing to build an academic community in the arts, humanities, and professions is no easy task, but one that I’m excited about. I want to collaborate with students and faculty to help create a vibrant and excellent academic environment. While we will continue to build off of our strong legacy, we also want to respond to the next generation of college students in preparing them to serve in their respective fields.
How can PUC help you accomplish your department goals?
PUC has already done a great job in setting up these three schools, and I am already enjoying working with the other deans, the department chairs, and the President’s Cabinet as we plan for the future of PUC. There are some exciting things both in the near and distant future for this institution.
What is your favorite part about working in academics?
I am energized by the constant pursuit of knowledge and the spiritual growth of a Christian academic environment. I also appreciate the diversity of people, culture, and thought at PUC. There are all kinds of interesting conversations taking place on campus, at church, and in the community, and I am honored to be part of it.
What is one thing you want people to know about PUC?
From the beautiful setting to the dedication of our staff to the tight-knit community of our church and town, PUC is an ideal place for students to grow in knowledge and Christ.
What do you love most about living in the Napa Valley?
It’s breathtaking in its natural beauty! There are so many places to hike, bike, and explore. It’s got that small-town vibe with access to big-city culture. Angwin, especially, is a very special place to live. It’s safe, friendly, and beautiful. When my friends come to visit, they always remark on what an incredible community we have. It’s been an idyllic place for me and my wife to raise our family.
