Your PUC Bucket List

Welcome to PUC, overlooking the beautiful Napa Valley! There’s plenty to do and fun to be had both on campus and off. Here are just a few places you ought to visit before graduating.

The Back 40

Offering over 850 acres of trails to bike, hike, and walk whenever you please, PUC’s Back Forty is a beautiful, quiet place, where you can get away from the everyday stress of being a student and reconnect with nature. During the winter and early spring months, you might want to check out Mossy Rock and the creek that runs through it, or if you want a wonderful view, head on over to Inspiration Peak. If you are someone who enjoys a challenge, there is no more challenging spot than Angwish Hill, aptly named for its steepness; it is sure to put a wobble in your step when you are through. Lush with nature, filled with critters, forget your troubles and breathe in the fresh air.

Paulin Hall

Recently renovated, Paulin Hall, otherwise known as the music hall, is a wonderful place to step into, especially when an event is in session. In the past, there have been plays performed in their recital hall, and orchestras have performed as well. When either of these is playing, take a seat in their lush, comfortable chairs and enjoy the show. Otherwise, if you happen to play an instrument, come and use one of their music rooms, where you can be at peace and play to your heart’s content. Music is a gift, make the most out of it here in Paulin Hall.

Saint Helena

Located only 10 minutes down the mountain, this is the first town you will encounter in the Napa Valley from PUC. There is some great food to be found, as in all places in the Napa Valley, from Gott’s burgers, to Aztecas, to Guigni’s Deli; there is no shortage of good eats. There are also plenty of stores on Main Street for you to explore. But besides the usual, there are many events held throughout the year, from the Harvest Festival in October, Summer Concerts in the Park, and the Sidewalk Sale. These are but a few of the events, all of which are well worth your time, and you ought to take advantage of.

Napa

It’s the name of the Valley, isn’t it? Beautiful is a word to describe Napa. It is a beautiful city, with wonderful people, and plenty to do, especially when it comes to food. There is an absolute plethora of great food to be found in this city, whether at the Oxbow Market with Loveski Deli or downtown at Small World Mediterranean. Add to that the many stores so that you can shop for whatever you desire, there is no shortage of ways you can take back “Napa Valley Memorabilia.” There is also a wonderful river trail that is gorgeous at sunset, with the bright colors reflecting off the water like a living painting. Truly, this city has it all.

San Francisco

When most people think of the Bay Area, they think of San Francisco, and for good reason. There is so much to do, and so much to see. From the glorious Golden Gate Bridge, to Alcatraz Island, to Chinatown, to the various sports arenas where you can catch a game all throughout the year, there is no shortage of things to discover in the great city. So take a group of friends and head out to the city. Plan ahead of time, obviously, and take traffic into account, and you will most certainly have a good time.

Dress warmly, and even during the summer months, take a light jacket. Mark Twain once said the coldest summer he ever spent was a summer in San Francisco, but it’s not all that cold, bring that jacket just in case, and you will be fine. Your phone might be so full of pictures by the end you have no storage left, but know that it was filled for a good cause, as you will have plenty that you want to keep forever.

So what are you waiting for? You all know where to go, so get in your cars and go explore! You’ll find plenty of things to do, and make wonderful memories along the way!
