Senior Spotlight: Kate Nakamura

From Kapa’a, Hawaii, Kate Nakamura will be graduating this June with a degree in Health Communication. What she appreciates the most about her program is enjoying the classes and having professors who are easy to talk to and support her. Having met great people on campus, Kate says she will miss the community at PUC the most.

What made you decide to attend PUC?

My older sister was a student at PUC, which made the transition to college easier. PUC was also closer to home than other colleges on the West Coast.

Do you remember what stood out to you the most when you first arrived on campus?

How far PUC is from a lot of places, but I do enjoy the mountain environment and all the greenery.

Who has impacted you the most during your time at PUC?

Dr. McGuire. As my advisor, my boss, and my professor, she has been so supportive and helped me navigate college over the past four years.

What class have you taken that every student should take, regardless of their major?

Interpersonal Communication with Dr. McGuire.

Aside from passing classes, what is something on your PUC bucket list you want to accomplish before graduating?

Spending more time with my friends and doing things that I enjoy.

What are you most proud of during your college career?

Putting myself out there and trying new things, especially my growth as a ceramicist; I am really proud of the clay chandelier I made and hung during the student art exhibition.

If you could go back in time to one moment during your years at PUC, what would it be?

I would go back in time to this past Winter quarter when my friends and I went on a trip to Chinatown in SF. I had so much fun and wished we had more time to spend looking at shops and catching up.

What is your favorite thing about being a part of the Pioneers community?

Being able to create strong bonds with lifelong friends.

How would you describe your perfect weekend at PUC?

A perfect weekend would include sleeping in, spending time with my friends, grabbing a bite to eat, and maybe stopping by the farmers market or going thrifting.

What is your favorite cafe or restaurant in the Napa Valley? What is your order recommendation?

One of my favorites is Tra Vigne’s. I love their Caesar salad and spaghetti marinara.

What does PUC mean to you?

During my time at PUC, I learned a lot about myself and confirmed the career that I want to pursue.

After graduation, Kate will be attending Loma Linda University for Occupational therapy.
