Student Government Feature: Nicholas Jefferson
This year’s Student Government Executive Vice President is Angwin native and junior social work major Nicholas Jefferson. With wanting to be involved in student government, Nicholas decided to run for this position and be part of making great changes on campus. “Because PUC has been wonderful to me, I want to help wherever I am needed,” he shared. Nicholas is excited to help run Student Senate and work with his fellow Student Government officers.
How do you plan to support PUC students?
I plan to support them through the student senate. Having several ways for students and departments to be heard and filled is important.
Tell us about Student Senate. What do you think students need more of to enhance their campus experience?
Student senate provides an opportunity to purchase items that can help improve our campus. We do this through the senators, they are the ones who do the searching and research into what’s needed or even wanted. I have a few ideas about what is needed, but I think the future senators will have a much better grasp on what’s needed.
For students who are not in leadership roles, how can they voice their ideas or concerns to you?
They can talk to me, I would better this over anything else!
What message do you want to emphasize across campus next year to help shape PUC’s culture? What kind of culture do you want to help build at PUC?
I want to emphasize that PUC is a Christian campus that follows Christian values.
What can faculty and staff do to support you and your Student Gov. team?
I would like faculty and staff to be open to hearing out our ideas even if they sound strange in the beginning.
What do you think makes PUC special?
The people who work and go here. I think that we place too much value on the degree of impact more money has on the quality of the college experience.
What made you decide to attend PUC?
PUC had the program I was interested in. And it was not too far away from my family.
What is your favorite thing about being a part of the Pioneers community?
Being around the people. The people here at PUC make the community what it is.
