It’s always a treat to flex the creative side that lies in you. Well, never fear, for PUC offers a variety of courses designed to tap into that well of creativity. Whether it is just on a whim for a hobby, or if you need certain credits, and you figure you might as well take a class that is fun, or if you want it to be your career, they’ve got it for you.

Creative Writing

Have you ever felt the desire to write? Now here’s your opportunity to lay pen to paper and do it. A variety of different subjects within the creative writing field are offered here for you to take. Whether you love poetry (WRIT 313), nonfiction (WRIT 311), playwriting (WRIT 312), or short story writing (WRIT 314), you can pick and choose and have a blast in doing so. Or if you’d prefer, you could also take scriptwriting and write a film you’d love to see on the silver screen. Either way, you’ll have a blast doing so and learn a lot about not only writing, but yourself as well. 

Film

Would you like to dip your toe into film? How would you like to learn how movies are made, and all the work that goes into just one shot? How would you like to direct your own movie? Then head over to the film department and learn all there is to discover about this wide world of cinema. Maybe you’ll find something life changing in any of the technical aspects of movie making such as cinematography (FILM 360), or editing (FILM 256), or directing (FILM 350); or maybe you’d just like to gain a greater appreciation and understanding of world cinema to discover life changing films you would never knew even existed. 

Music

Everyone loves music and listens to it daily. So, how about you try your hand at writing music? Wouldn’t that be fun? And maybe you could even conduct an orchestra (MUED 241). How exciting! Music is beautiful and wonderful, and the world needs more of it. Music students have also partnered with film students to produce original scores for their films. Maybe you’d like to be the next John Williams or Hans Zimmer. Or maybe you just want to gain a deeper appreciation of music and learn about music around the world (MUHL 105, MUHL 245). Either way, you are sure to find something to enjoy in this department. 

Fine Art

How would you like to be able to paint? Have you ever seen a painting or drawing that has taken your breath away, and thought to yourself, “I wish I could do that?” Well, here at PUC, you can get your chance to learn and better yourself and your skills. Here you will learn all about design and composition (ARTD 124), and how to perfect the craft of creating. You may even come to find something else you never knew you would love, like ceramics or sculpting (ARTF 212, ARTF 218). You’ll learn to see the beauty of a potter with his clay; the beauty of a blank canvas; the beauty that comes flowing out of you and into your work. 

There is so much to do and discover about yourself here at PUC. Through these classes, and many others, whether they be for your future career or just for the here and now, you will open up a world of possibilities you never knew existed. And who knows, your life may never be the same.
