From Covington, Wash., is PUC’s Student Association Executive Vice President Justin Taina. Even as a busy junior biology major, he was motivated to run for SA to help make campus-life improvements and support the student body by managing the student senate. With all the social opportunities on campus, Justin hopes to increase student involvement and give them the best events and culture at PUC.
How will you advocate for the students of PUC?
There are two main ways I plan on being an advocate for PUC students: First, and more generally, by being a member of the SA cabinet and acting as a clear intermediary between students and admin. Second, and more specifically, being EVP and encouraging student-led improvements for the campus.
What message do you want to emphasize across campus next year to help shape the culture of PUC?
I’d love for people returning to PUC or new to Angwin to bring what makes them human and unique to our campus. It’s kind of in the overall motto that SA suggested– Passion.
How can faculty and staff support you and your team?
I’d have to say continue being consistent in communications. Most everything else boils down to either slow responses or the like.
What made you decide to attend PUC?
A practical reason would be the generous financial aid. If I didn’t land the scholarships at PUC, I’d most likely be at a community college transferring to UW right now. A more personal reason is that my cousin Christopher Taina came to PUC back in the early 2010s and pushed me to apply here.
What is your favorite thing about being a part of the Pioneers community?
I’d say the views of nature I can get while studying in the dining commons remind me of home when I can look up and see fields of evergreen trees like back in Washington.
