Five Steps to Help You Land an Internship

For those of you looking for an internship or are in the interviewing process, we put together five steps to help you land an internship.

Step One: Do Your Homework

From their LinkedIn to their social media platforms, these will give you a good head start on the information you need to know before and during your interview. You have to show you’re interested in the industry, and reading up about it will show how genuine and interested you are in working with them.

Step Two: Positivity Makes A Difference

Feeling nervous before an interview is common. As you approach your interview, try to put those nerves aside and smile through it. A positive attitude and a smile can go a long way in making a difference in how the employer sees you. Show a real interest in the role you’re applying for, ask questions, and be keen. Positivity is a key attribute employers want to see in potential colleagues, so keep this in mind.

Step Three: Network

Networking can be frightening and challenging, but be open and make an effort to attend networking events and meetings. This is a great way to find more job opportunities and connect with other people in your industry. You never know who you’ll meet or who knows who.

Step Four: Work on Your Online Presence

Make sure your online presence matches your goals. Living in a digital world, your online presence can speak louder than a copy of your resume. Review your social media profiles- share articles, insights, or inspiration that match your career goals. Before or after an employer meets you, they will find you on social media if you haven’t shared yours with them already.

Step Five: Leave A Good Impression

It is a must to leave a good impression because you could be up against a lot of people and you want the employer to remember you. Having good manners is vital- say “thank you”, show gratitude, and send a post-interview email to each interviewer. Let them know you appreciate them taking the time to meet with you. Even if you don’t get the internship, you never know how leaving a good impression on them can open other doors for you.

Be confident out there and good luck!
