How PUC Helps Students Land Internships

by Keegan Malan

Once you have graduated from college, the whole working world lies before you. Many graduates will start their careers in entry-level positions or internships. It is a daunting task to find a place that is right for you, and if you do not prepare for it or think ahead of the game, it can feel like swimming against the current. Luckily for you, PUC has your back and offers a wide variety of services to help you land internships.

Resume Development/Mock Interview

It is important to have a great resume to send out to potential employers. You can make an appointment with a career counselor at the career and counseling center for coaching and a resume review. There are monthly drop-in resume clinics available in the Center that you can make use of, and should. In addition, you can schedule a mock interview with a career counselor. Whether this mock interview is in-person or over video, they can do it. This will help you practice building confidence and selling yourself, while receiving tips and information you will surely need.

Department Chair

It is always smart to check with your department chair. For their position, they know many people in their field and talk to them on a regular basis. It’s smart to contact them to ask whether they know of any internships available, or to let them know you’d be open to being considered if they hear of anything. If you know the chair, have talked to them regularly before, this is more likely to happen, which is why it is a good idea to say hello to them throughout your time at PUC, maybe even exchange some small talk. Marketing yourself to others is part of the nature of getting jobs and internships.

Monster.com

A wide variety of postings made available only to participating colleges at Monster.com. Go to their website, choose “Search Jobs & Internships,” then find PUC under “college and university career centers.” Type “PUC” into the password box, then hit the search box next to “monster.com entry-level search” at the bottom of the page, and you will find a variety of entry-level positions available to PUC graduates.

Career Network

Check out AfterCollege, which has built major-specific Career Networks where students can receive information from their favorite companies, search for jobs and internships, create a customized profile, and network with alumni. This service is completely free for all students, so sign up today to find great opportunities for yourself! If you have any questions about the process, you can contact care@aftercollege.com for more information.

You can avail yourself of these services anytime you want, and should do so in advance of your graduation date. You need to get ahead in order to get your foot in the door. Work hard and prepare yourself, and when the time comes, move forward with confidence, knowing PUC has your back.
