Senior Sherban (pronounced “shair-BAWN”) Cedeno majors in history, political studies, and ethics. Sherban decided to become a political science major because he wanted to know what the weird political people on Twitter he followed talked about when they talked about things like “communization theory” and “accelerationism” and “abolishing the labor form.” He still no longer knows what they’re talking about, but after learning so much about the world, Sherban’s learned that it doesn’t matter all too much. He’s looking forward to getting a master’s in international affairs and working for the State Department, which he thinks is a more meaningful goal.
What made you decide to attend PUC?
They gave me money and a huge discount for doing well on the PSAT.
What is your favorite thing about being a part of the Pioneers family?
There’s this saying I heard from years ago: “If you want to study, go to PUC.” This is tongue-in-cheek, of course, but I’ve heard PUC’s students described as “mature” and “studious” from other sources as well. These are things I value, so I’m glad that I’m part of a college family that live by these values in my eyes.
Where is your favorite place in the world, and why?
Wherever my friends and family are, which I think is the only correct answer.
What is something you’re passionate about?
A Chinese fantasy role-playing game called “Genshin Impact.” It provides me with a view into many of the world’s cultures – something which directly feeds into my interest in history that I’ve developed over my time at PUC – and I am low-key obsessed with the game’s lore and worldbuilding.
Do you have a favorite restaurant in the Napa Valley?
I don’t eat out much, but the Himalayan Sherpa down in St. Helena is very much worth a visit if you have the time! And I’m sure I’m not the only one with the recommendation. They have this mango Indian drink, mango lassi, that I really like, and of course there’s their tikka masala.
How would you describe your perfect weekend at PUC?
I love it when the church hosts big potlucks on Sabbaths! Potluck food is an unparalleled genre of cuisine, and you get to see all your friends.
