Tips to Be Eco-Friendly This Holiday Season

The holidays are here! With Christmas gift shopping and decorating, we’ve put a few tips for making your holidays eco-friendly.

Give Up Wrapping Paper

We know wrapping gifts is fun, and all the presents look pretty under the tree– but not all wrapping paper can be recycled. If you buy wrapping paper containing velvet, foil, or glitter, remember it’s not recyclable. (Although, we have seen people unwrap a gift so nicely that they were able to save and reuse it.) Instead, opt for reusable bags and cloth wraps, or even find sustainable wrapping paper if you really want to use them.

Shop In-Store

All of us have ordered something online that shipped in the most unnecessary way, by being in a bigger box with lots of packing inside. We encourage you to shop in-store to avoid all that packaging and to decrease your carbon footprint.

Send Digital Holiday Cards

If you are thinking of sending holiday cards, consider sending a digital card. This way, the card will arrive on time, and you can create your own and personalize it.

Use LED Lights

String lights are the first things students use to decorate their rooms. Look for LED lights because they last longer and use less energy.

Recycle Your Live Christmas Tree

If you decide to use a fresh tree, remember to recycle it or bring it to a local farm for them to use.
