Senior Spotlight: Abby Suttan

From Loma Linda, Abby Sutton originally planned to attend La Sierra University because it was close to home. Instead, she chose PUC because she wanted a college experience far from home and loved the quiet environment and natural surroundings, which made her decision much easier. Although she was nervous and didn’t know anyone on campus, the Fusion leaders, staff, and President Trecartin were so welcoming, helping her move into the dorms, praying with her, and making sure she felt supported during her first week of college. To this day, their outstanding kindness is the one thing she remembers most about her arrival at PUC.

In June, Abby will be graduating with a degree in Strategic Communication. During her time at PUC, she is most proud of the growth she’s experienced from holding leadership roles, building strong relationships, and becoming more confident in who she is and what she wants to pursue in life. “PUC means growth, community, and opportunity,” she said. “It’s where I’ve learned more about myself, built meaningful relationships, and prepared for my future.”

What do you appreciate the most about your program?

I appreciate the close-knit environment. Since the department is small, I’ve built strong relationships with my professors and receive consistent support. It makes a big difference in both my academic experience and career preparation.

Who has impacted you the most during your time at PUC?

My friends have impacted me the most. They’ve supported me through challenges, celebrated my successes, and made my college experience meaningful. Having that kind of community has helped me grow both personally and academically.

What class have you taken that every student should take, regardless of their major?

I think every student should take Organizational Communication. No matter your career path, you’ll be part of an organization, and this class helps you understand how to communicate and work effectively with others.

Aside from passing classes, what is something on your PUC bucket list you want to accomplish before graduating?

One thing on my PUC bucket list is swimming in Linda Falls. It’s something I’ve always wanted to do, and I think it would be a really fun and memorable experience before graduating.

If you could go back in time to one moment during your years at PUC, what would it be and why?

I would go back to when we got snowed in on campus. It was such a fun and unique experience, and everyone came together to enjoy it. It’s a memory that really captured the sense of community at PUC.

What is your favorite thing about being a part of the Pioneers community?

The sense of support and belonging. Students, faculty, and staff genuinely care about each other and lift each other up, which makes a big difference in the college experience.

How would you describe your perfect weekend at PUC?

My perfect weekend would include going out to try new food or places with my friends, going to church on Saturday and spending time with friends, and ending the weekend by taking time for myself on Sunday.

What is your favorite cafe or restaurant in the Napa Valley?

My favorite spot is Applebee’s! My go-to order is a sirloin with steamed veggies, French fries, and a lemonade.

What are you going to miss the most about PUC?

I’ll miss the community I built the most. The friendships, supportive professors, and the sense of community that makes PUC feel like home.

After graduation, Abby plans to work and earn her Masters in Communication at PUC.
