Senior Spotlight: Nyllah Safotu

From Kapolei, Hawaii, Nyllah Safotu is a kinesiology and education major graduating in June. What she will miss the most at PUC is the support system she found through her friends and professors. After graduation, Nyllah plans to begin her career in teaching or become a student missionary.

Do you remember what stood out most when you first arrived on campus?

When I first arrived on campus, I remember how daunting all the stairs and hills were. On a map, it didn’t seem like buildings were very far away from each other, but it also didn’t show the elevation that you would experience going from the tennis courts to the dorms.

Do you have a favorite class you’ve taken at PUC?

My favorite class that I have taken here at PUC is lifeguard training. This class was probably the most challenging for me because of how difficult the coursework was, practically and mentally. It was hard for me to learn how to do all the different rescues while building up my swimming skills.

However, it was equally hard for me to swallow my pride and ask for help. I ended up asking a classmate for help because of how well he was doing in the class. By the end of the class, I not only got my lifeguard certification but gained a new friend as well.

Aside from passing classes, what do you want to accomplish before graduating?

I have a bucket list of restaurants I want to try and places to visit in the Bay Area before graduating. Most of them are coastal towns and cafes that I want to check out.

How would you describe your perfect weekend at PUC?

On Saturday morning, I would probably sleep in a little bit but then head to church in time for the service. Some Sabbath afternoons, professors will have lunch provided at their house, and I’ll usually go with friends to get some free food.

Sunday is usually study time, but if I’m able to finish my homework earlier, I’ll go into the Bay Area to hang out with friends.

What is your favorite cafe or restaurant in the Napa Valley? What do you recommend?

My favorite restaurant in the Napa Valley is Mangia Mi in Calistoga. I recommend getting focaccia bread and any of the salads to start. Then, for an entree, I would recommend getting any pasta because they are freshly made each day.
